 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Q: Who can attend the Children's Learning Center?

A:The Children's Learning Center accepts children of NJCU students, employees, and alumni. Click here for additional eligibility requirements.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Tuition for students is $3.00 per hour per child. Charges for staff, faculty, and alumni using the center is $5.00 an hour per child. There is an optional full time flat rate of $150 per child per week. An initial nonrefundable application fee of $25 must accompany all new applications. The center then has a $10.00 registration fee due every subsequent semester. Read more about the center's tuition and fees.

Q: How old does my child have to be to attend? A: Due to licensing requirements, children need to be at least 2 ½ to attend the center. Since we are not licensed to care for children under this age, no exceptions can be made. Q: Does my child need to be toilet trained?

A: Children do not need to be toilet trained in order to attend. When a child is ready, teachers will work with parents to assist with the toilet training process. Parents will need to supply diapers and wipes for children who are not yet toilet trained.

Q: How do I enroll my child?

A: Before making the decision to enroll, we invite you to visit the center with your child. You can take a tour, meet the staff, and have any questions answered. Please contact us to set up an appointment. If you have already made the decision to enroll your child here, you must complete an application. Applications must be picked up from the center. Children are admitted to the center on a first come, first served basis, so we suggest that you return your materials early.

Q: What are your hours?

A: The center is open Monday-Friday. The center operates on the University's schedule and is open on days that classes are in session. This includes weather related closings and delayed openings. Additional information about our hours can be found here.

Q: Can I bring my child to the center if my babysitter is sick or if his/her school is closed?

A: Yes. The center provides emergency care for families if there is space available. However, we do not provide sick care; if your child is too sick to attend his/her school, s/he is too sick to attend the CLC. In order to take advantage of emergency care, you must be either a NJCU student or staff member. You need to have a completed application on file for your child. Applications may not be returned on your child's first day in our program. Please contact the center before bringing your child. Children who are not pre-approved to attend that day will not be permitted to stay. It is suggested that you call the center as soon as you know you will need care, as emergency care is also provided on a first come, first served basis. Although we will make every effort to accomodate your child, please understand that space is limited and we may not be able provide care for your child every time you call.

Q: Do you accept child care subsidies?

A: No, the center no longer accepts child care subsidy vouchers.

Q: Are you hiring?

A: Visit our employment page for more information on working at the Children's Learning Center.

Q: My question is not answered here. What should I do?

A: If you have questions that are not addressed here, please contact us. We can be reached at 201-200-3342 or you can use our online form.
