The Accelerated BSN program is an innovative educational opportunity for college graduates that allow them to transition into entry level clinical practice in only twelve months. Full-time study is required during this period.
Interested individuals with a bachelor’s degree, who have completed the required prerequisite courses, are invited to apply to the program. Following admission to and completion of the pre-licensure phase, students will be awarded a B.S.N. degree and are eligible to take the required National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).
New Jersey City University’s Accelerated B.S.N. Program is offered in two convenient New Jersey sites; Jersey City starting every September and Wall Township at the NJCU at Wall campus in May of each year.
Note: In addition to any applicable tuition and/or fees, students in the Accelerated B.S.N. program should expect to pay approximately $2,500 for required uniforms, books, and nursing equipment.

Admissions Process
Program Admission Requirements
The following is a list of general admissions requirements for the 2013-2014 Accelerated B.S.N. program. You can also download our applicant checklist. Applications for 2013 admission will be accepted beginning December 1, 2012.
- Application and application fee
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 Scale (Preferred, but NOT required)
- Official transcripts from each college or university attended
- Two recommendations (from professor, supervisor, or professional colleague)
- CV / Resume
- Admission essay
- A minimum overall score of 80% on the standardized Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) exam
- Completion of the following prerequisite classes* in the United States within the past 10 years
- Anatomy & Physiology I
- Anatomy & Physiology 11
- Microbiology
- Statistics (any discipline)
- Developmental Psychology
- *Applicants are required to have completed all five pre-requisites prior to applying. Additionally, all applicants must have been awarded the BA/BS degree by the application deadline.
How to Apply - Paper Application Only
There are very tight timelines for receiving and reviewing applications. For this reason, we ask that you mail your application directly to the nursing department - please do not use the online application.
Application deadlines vary by cohort site. The application deadlines for the 2013 cohorts has passed. The application deadlines for the 2014 NJCU at Wall cohort is February 1, 2014. The application deadline for the 2014 Jersey City cohort is March 1, 2014. Applications that are incomplete will not be considered. Note that HESI Admission Assessment exam scores will automatically be sent to NJCU; you do not need to wait for your scoring report to submit your application.
The HESI Admission Assessment exam is required of all applicants. The exam covers content related to math, English and sciences; NJCU does not test students on chemistry or physics content.

All applications will be processed in the order they were received. Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email with instructions on how to review your application status in our online File Management System. Please allow up to two weeks to receive these instructions. As pending documents are received, we will update your application in the File Management System and you will receive an email notification.
This program has the capacity to fill approximately 44 available seats at the Jersey City campus and 28 seats at the NJCU at Wall campus. A waiting list is created only when there are more qualified applicants than seats available. If no vacancies become available, applicants on the waiting list must re-apply the following year.
For individuals re-applying to the accelerated program:
- Call the Admissions Office to re-activate your file and request your previous application be forwarded to the Nursing Department. Your application fee will be waived.
- You will need to re-take the HESI Admission Assessment exam.
- You will need to submit new recommendations and essay if you are re-applying in a new academic year.
Special Note: Internationally educated students must have their transcripts evaluated by an acceptable accreditation agency, such as World Education Services and Education Credential Service.
