NJCU Athletics
Changing the Game in Athletics
From baseball to wrestling and everything in between, the NJCU Gothic Knights are spirited, gritty and about much more than just sports. Yes, our teams have won championships, and our athletes and coaches have been recognized for notable achievements. But more importantly, we are Jersey City's Team. We strive to represent our school—and our community—as game-changing leaders in athletics, academics and service.
Varsity eSports
#winningesports NJCU eSports is our first co-ed competitive offering. The Gothic Knights are compete in the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE), and while we participate in many challenges, we won a Super Smash Bros. championship during our inaugural Fall 2020 semester. Other teams include Rocket League and Overwatch, with more to come.
Growing Fast
#21TeamsandCounting: In addition to being one of the fastest-growing athletics programs in the country, we're the largest in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. We currently offer 21 varsity sport programs, and are continuing to introduce new programs every year. Our most recent additions are women's and men's wrestling, men's and women's tennis, and women's golf.
Scoring Across the Nation
#PlayingEverywhere: We are always Jersey City's Team first, but our reach expands across the United States. We play teams in neighboring states like Pennsylvania and New York, but you'll also find us in places such as Las Vegas, Texas, Florida and South Carolina, spreading our good reputation—and our student-athletes' visibility—everywhere we go.
Breaking Barriers
#GothicGrappling: We're the first university in New Jersey and the fifth in Division III history to offer women's wrestling. Not into grappling? How about golf, or bowling? You'll find those sports here too.
Winning Coaches
#Hungry: Our men's basketball team is in the top 10 for all-time NCAA Division III tournament appearances and second in NJ for NCAA tournaments at any level. Many of these happened under longtime Head Coach Marc Brown, a former Division 1 student-athlete and professional player. Now in his 13th year of coaching at NJCU, he shares lessons about the game as well as life, always placing the development of the whole student—personal and academic—before anything else. He's just one of many NJCU coaches who win on and off the court.
