M.S. Business Analytics and Data Science

The NJCU School of Business at New Jersey City University has launched a new Master of Science degree program in Business Analytics and Data Science designed to prepare students for careers in the burgeoning field of data analytics. The Master of Science in Business Analytics and Data Science program will prepare students with the skills needed to gather, store, analyze and interpret large amounts of "Big Data" to facilitate informed business decision making.

Data analytics is an area of strong employment growth. A recent study by McKinsey Global Institute projects approximately 500,000 jobs requiring data analysis skills by 2018, with a projected shortage of approximately 190,000 jobs. The NJCU School of Business program enables graduate students with an interest in analytics to focus their studies on techniques suitable to specific business disciplines such as finance, marketing, logistics and accounting.

Demand for Data Scientists

The business world is rapidly transforming into a data driven one. There is a deluge of valuable data being generated in every facet of business, rightfully earning the moniker "Big Data”. The analysis of this avalanche of data has become of paramount importance in making business decisions. It is becoming increasingly apparent that those who have the skills to analyze big data will be the most sought after in the future.

A recent study by McKinsey Global Institute projects that about 500,000 jobs requiring data analysis skills will be created by 2018, with a shortage of about 190,000 jobs representing a gap of 50% to 60% between supply and demand. Another recent MIT Sloan School of Management survey reports that four in ten companies surveyed reported that the lack of professionals with data analytics skills as a key challenge. Data scientist jobs have increased steadily over the past few years and will continue to do so in the future.

The NJCU M.S in Business Analytics and Data Science program is designed to cater to this burgeoning need for analytics and data science professionals in various industries such as finance, marketing, retail and accounting. The program will also prepare students to take the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) certification.
