Completion of a dual major in secondary education prepares one for a career as a teacher in elementary, middle, and high schools in which subjects are taught separately. Candidates earn certification for grades K-12; however, most job opportunities will be for grades 7-12. The K-12 content certification is often referred to as “Secondary Certification.” Candidates for this certification complete education coursework and a major in one of the following baccalaureate programs offered by the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Earth and Environmental Science, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and Spanish. Please contact the appropriate department for major requirements and advisement.
