Certification Guidelines

Congratulations on completing your certification program. The Center for Teacher Preparation & Partnerships fully understands the importance of your certification and will work to ensure that your application is processed in a timely manner.

Please use the links provided below to begin your application. Kindly also email gradcert@njcu.edu to request an application cover page (specific to your intended area of certification). DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. This cover page will outline any additional credentials or requirements that need to be submitted with your application. Be sure to provide all requested documents as one scanned document to prevent a processing delay.

Once completed, please email your full application and all required documents as one scanned document to gradcert@njcu.edu.

Please note:

  • December completers should not submit an application before January 15, 2024, to allow ample time for transcript updates.
  • Spring Completers should not submit an application before June 30, 2024.

Failure to adhere to these timelines will delay the certification process, which is approximately 2-3 weeks. Once approved by a department chairperson, your application will be uploaded in NJ edCert, the new NJ DOE Teacher Certification platform, for final processing.

Additional details will be provided via email as you navigate the certification application process. Any questions or concerns you may have are welcome at gradcert@njcu.edu or 201-200-3015.

In closing, candidates for an Educational Services endorsement, such as Supervisor or Reading Specialist, may elect to use the NJedCert website to apply with the state directly via https://njdoe.my.site.com/manage/s/. Candidates for an initial instructional certification, such as Elementary or Secondary English, must apply through NJCU. TOSD candidates must also apply through NJCU.

Endorsement candidates should note that both processes involve university review and approval of your academic records and credentials, along with verification of program completion by the appropriate NJCU Department Chairperson.
