Anthony Esposito

Dr. Anthony Esposito grew up in Staten Island, New York where he attended public schools and was part of the first generation in his family to graduate college.

During his experience at the College of Staten Island, Anthony developed a passion for teaching that started with the Discovery Institute where he worked as an undergraduate teaching high school student labs. This along with his experiences as an undergraduate researcher in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics led to the pursuit of a PhD at Rutgers University in their Molecular Biosciences program. Here Anthony studied yeast genetics under Dr. Terri Goss Kinzy with a side project related to virology. For his postdoctoral fellowship worked in the lab of Dr. Benjamin Chen at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai studying HIV replication.

As a postdoc Dr. Esposito also began teaching college part time as an adjunct professor at the College of Staten Island. This was followed by visiting professor and adjunct positions at Wagner College, Sarah Lawrence College, and Westchester Community College. It was during this time that he was able to see a variety of different college environments and developed his teaching style. He then accepted a position at NJCU which had the small class size and individual attention of the private schools he taught at combined with the public school environment and students he was accustomed to in his own education making it the best of both worlds for him.

His current research focuses on developing methods to identify new drugs to stop viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 and HIV. He is always happy to talk with and help students however he can.
