With reflections and discussion by Roddy Bogawa:
Roddy Bogawa’s work is known for its investigation of history and culture via lyrical low-fi means and innovative narrative structures. He has made four feature films, I WAS BORN, BUT… (2004), JUNK (1999), and SOME DIVINE WIND (1991) and his most recent film, TAKEN BY STORM – THE ART OF STORM THORGERSON AND HIPGNOSIS (2015) about the work of prolific record cover designer Storm Thorgerson, noted for the iconic DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (Pink Floyd) and HOUSES OF THE HOLY (Led Zeppelin) among hundreds more. Roddy studied art and played in punk bands before turning to filmmaking receiving his MFA degree from the University of California at San Diego where he made his first two short films which have screened extensively in festivals, museums, and national and international art galleries.

9) Discussion Panel: Social Injustice from a Global Perspective
Exploring the intersections between and among social injustice, equity, diversity, and internationalization with Dr. Sonya Donaldson of the Lee Hagan Africana Center.

Dr. Sonya Donaldson earned her Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia, where her research focused on Black German autobiographical narratives. In addition to her digital humanities project, “Singing the Nation into Being: Anthems and the Politics of Black Performance,” Professor Donaldson is also completing a book manuscript, "Memory, History, and the Echoes of Diaspora," which examines autobiographical narratives, music, and performances by Black writers and artists.
