FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Q: Who can attend the Children's Learning Center?
A:The Children's Learning Center accepts children of NJCU students, employees, and alumni.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Tuition for students is $3.50 per hour per child. Charges for staff, faculty, and alumni using the center is $6.00 an hour per child. There is an optional full-time flat rate of $160 per child per week for staff/faculty and a $175 per child per week for alumni . An initial nonrefundable application fee of $40 must accompany all new applications. The center then has a $10.00 registration fee due every subsequent semester.

Q: How old does my child have to be to attend?
A: Due to licensing requirements, children need to be at least 2.5 years old to attend the center. Since we are not licensed to care for children under this age, no exceptions can be made.

Q: Does my child need to be toilet trained?
A: Children do not need to be toilet trained in order to enroll in our Preschool (ages 2.5-3) classroom. In order to enroll for our Pre-K program (ages 4-5), children must be toilet trained. When a child is ready, teachers will work with parents to assist with the toilet training process. Parents will need to supply diapers and wipes for children who are not, yet toilet trained.

Q: How do I enroll my child?
A: Before making the decision to enroll, we invite you to schedule a tour with the teachers to have any questions answered. Please email us to set up an appointment. If you are interested in enrolling your child an application can, be emailed or picked up in person upon request.  Children are admitted to the center on a first come, first served basis, so we suggest that you return your materials early.

Q: What are your hours?
A: The center is open Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm. The center operates on the University's schedule and is open on days that classes are in session.

Q: Can I bring my child to the center if my babysitter is sick or if his/her school is closed?
A: The center can offer emergency care for families if there is space available. However, we do not provide sick care; if your child is too sick to attend his/her school, s/he is too sick to attend the CLC. In order to take advantage of emergency care, you must be either a NJCU student or staff member. You need to have a completed application on file for your child. Applications may not be returned on your child's first day in our program. Please contact the center before bringing your child. Children who are not pre-approved to attend that day will not be permitted to stay. It is suggested that you call the center as soon as you know you will need care, as emergency care is also provided on a first come, first served basis. Although we will make every effort to accommodate your child, please understand that space is limited, and we may not be able provide care for your child every time you call.

Q: Do you accept child care subsidies?
A: No, the center does not accept subsidies.

Q: Do you provide other forms of tuition assistance?
A: Yes! The center offers pell-eligible student parents with a tuition scholarship that will reduce the tuition by 50%.  For more information, please email the center at njcuclc@njcu.edu for more information.
