Dr. Nurdan Aydin Appointed Associate Provost

Dr. Nurdan S. Duzgoren-Aydin, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs

Following a national search, Dr. Nurdan S. Duzgoren-Aydin has been named Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. 

Dr. Aydin brings a wealth of experience to this important position, and has served as Interim Assistant Provost at NJCU since July 2016. 

Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, she chaired NJCU’s Earth and Environmental Sciences department for three years (2013-2016).

In her new role, Dr. Aydin will assist the Provost in the administration and leadership of schools and units within Academic Affairs including working with the Provost Council and the Provost on the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan. 

Under the direction of the Provost, she will continue oversight of faculty/staff development, orientation and engagement, and administration-faculty governance initiatives. Dr. Aydin will continue to initiate and implement academic policies and procedures and work with the deans and other leaders on behalf of the following initiatives:  facilitating new degree programs, degree approval processes, program review, grants administration, curriculum development, course assessment, accreditation and faculty-student engagement. 

Dr. Aydin earned her Ph.D. at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. She received her B.Sc. in Geological Engineering and her M.Sc. in Geochemistry from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. 

She joined NJCU in 2010 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2014. In 2013, Dr. Aydin was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award from The National Society of Leadership and Success. She was recognized as the first Distinguished Lecturer of the International Society for Medical Geology. She was the elected President of the Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, and serves as the Guest Editor of 
The Journal of Geoscience.  

She holds an impressive track record of SCI-Indexed publications and external grant awards. Dr. Aydin is the co-leader of the Frontier Set grant supported by AASCU and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
