JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) senior Sydney Millevoi will realize a lifelong dream this weekend when she appears as a contestant on Season 22 of American Idol on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 7 p.m. The iconic series airs nationally on ABC.

Sydney, a resident of Secaucus, N.J. and graduate of High Tech High School, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business at NJCU.

"I've dreamt about this day ever since I was a little girl, watching the show with my mom every week,” said Millevoi. “Take it from me — dreams do come true.”

Sydney acknowledged the education she has received at NJCU and the faculty members in NJCU’s Music, Dance, and Theatre Department who have mentored her have played a critical role in her reaching this dream.

“I want to give a special shoutout to my voice coach and professor Adria Firestone. Without meeting her at NJCU, I wouldn't be the person or the performer I am today. She guided me to be unapologetically myself through song, and I am forever grateful for her wisdom.”

American Idol, the iconic series that revolutionized the television landscape by pioneering the music competition genre, has aired on ABC for six seasons after previously being a staple program on FOX. Helping determine who America will ultimately vote to become the next singing sensation are music industry forces and superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy® Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest hosts the beloved competition series.
