Online 50 Hour Introduction to Teaching Class

Introduction to Teaching: 50-Hour Pre-Professional Course

This class is the first part of the Alternate Route coursework. The class runs 5 weeks and includes an overview of all aspects of teaching, including:

Session 1: Overview of the Teaching Profession
Session 2: Classroom Management
Session 3: Lesson Planning
Session 4: Literacy
Session 5: Diversity
Session 6: Assessments
Session 7: Technology and The Home Connection
Session 8: edTPA

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates receive a Verification of Program Completion form that is used by a school district to apply for a candidate's Provisional License.

Courses are offered monthly. Participating community colleges offer in-person classes while NJCU offers the class 100% online

Admission requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative 2.75 GPA (if you graduated prior to September 2016) or a 3.0 GPA (if you graduated after September 2016) or higher from a bachelor’s or higher degree program. Send your official transcript to newpathways@njcu.edu

We will accept a Verification of Program Completion from other programs for admission to New Pathways. Please contact us for more information.
