March 5, 2025: The NJCU Board of Trustees voted to pursue a strategic merger with Kean.
May 15, 2025: Kean and NJCU signed a letter of intent to pursue a merger.
July 1, 2025: The Shared Services Agreement between Kean and NJCU became effective.
Summer 2025: Kean and NJCU submitted preliminary forms to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the accrediting agency for both institutions, to initiate a review process.
October 1, 2025: Kean and NJCU signed a definitive agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the merger.
October 29, 2025: Kean submitted more detailed plans for the integration to Middle States.
November 2025: NJCU submitted additional plans for the integration to Middle States.
April 23, 2026: Middle States advances the merger.
July 1, 2026: Kean will acquire control of NJCU. All NJCU employees become Kean employees.
August 2026: Upon review of the U.S. Department of Education, the merger will be complete. All NJCU students become Kean students.
