What to Bring and What to Leave Home

Not Permitted

For your safety and the safety of your fellow residents, the following items are not permitted in the residence halls:

• Hot plates, toaster ovens, microwaves, electric skillets, coffee/hot water pots, sandwich grills, juicer and other electrical cooking appliances
• Portable space heaters
• Air conditioners (window or room units)
• Non–institutional furniture and mattresses
• Inflatable furniture/mattresses
• Floor /door mirrors
• Candles, incense, air freshener with plug-in adapter
• Extension cords, multiple-plug adapters, power strips without circuit breakers, halogen lamps
• DJ equipment, boom boxes, large speakers
• Gym equipment, weights
• Power tools
• Curtains, banners, hanging fabrics, flags, full wall posters (entire wall may not be covered)
• Alcohol/drugs and related paraphernalia.
• Any tray containing ashes of any type, if found, must get confiscated.
• Weapons, items perceived as weapons (no exceptions)
• Non-approved holiday decorations
• Pets
• Masking Tape

What to Bring

For your room:

• Alarm clock / watch / radio
• Blanket / comforter, pillows, pillowcases, sheets (twin extra-long)
• Throw rug (rubber back), small carpet
• Shower curtain 
• Shower curtain rings
• Air fresheners / room deodorants (non plug-in type), non-aerosol spray
• Toilet paper (Vodra Hall / West Campus Village Hall)
• Bathmat (Vodra Hall & West Campus Village Hall)
• Cleaning supplies (broom, mop, sponges, paper towels, disinfectant, cleaner, etc.)
• Wastebasket
• TV / DVD / radio or stereo (bookshelf or standard- size systems)
• Refrigerator (1.7, 2.5, OR 2.7 cu. ft)
• Rice cooker
• Posters and command strips (reusable adhesive replacing tape, pushpins and tacks)
• Flashlight (strongly recommended)
• Small safe, footlocker with lock and key
• Multi-utility outlet with circuit breaker or surge protector (very important)

Personal items:

• Towels and washcloths
• Soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.
• Shower shoes / shower cap
• Hair dryer (blower)/curling iron
• Iron with auto shut off control and table ironing board
• Laundry bag / basket, detergent, fabric, softener, etc.
• Hangers, sewing kit
• Umbrella or rain gear

Study items:

• Computer, laptop (optional)
• Class supplies – pens, paper, pencils, study aids
• Tape, scissors, stapler
• Study resources (dictionary, thesaurus, reference books, etc.)
• Calendars (daily and planner)
