Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., believed that “the arc of moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

Our campus celebrates the ascension of Ketanji Brown Jackson to our Nation’s highest court. For the first-time in our history, a Black woman will serve on the Supreme Court of the United States of America. And with Judge Brown Jackson’s confirmation, a majority of the justices on the Court will be represented by women and people of color for the first-time ever in our history. This is moral progress and movement toward “a more perfect union.”

At New Jersey City University, we recognize education’s mobilizing power that is forging a path to a more just and equitable society, harnessing the inherent strength of our diversity. Especially now, we are a proud historic Minority-Serving and Hispanic-Serving Institution and we revere our mission to provide the wherewithal for first-generation students to achieve the American Dream.

Together with our exceptional students, their families, and our community, we celebrate this historic moment with profound appreciation for the centuries of struggles and sacrifice that have made days like yesterday possible. We recommit to breaking down all remaining barriers to opportunity, so that we can usher in an era of equity fulfilling the promise of a truly inclusive and diverse America.
