2024 Alumna and Current Graduate Vocal Performance Student Will Also Star in NJCU's Spring Production of Jagged Little Pill
JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) is proud to celebrate the national spotlight shining on one of its decorated students and recent graduates. Sydney Millevoi, a current Master of Music in Vocal Performance candidate (Class of 2026) and 2024 alumna who earned her B.A. in Music Business, is featured in tonight's Blind Auditions episode of “The Voice” on NBC, airing at 9 p.m. Eastern.
The performance will be available for streaming on March 10 on Peacock. Watch the sneak peek at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oss4OnhgyZY.
A resident of Secaucus, N.J. and graduate of High Tech High School, Millevoi performs Jessie J's "Mamma Knows Best" during her Blind Audition on Season 29 of the hit NBC competition hosted by Carson Daly. Her performance earned extraordinary praise from all three coaches — music legends Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine.
Levine was gushing in his praise: "Your vocal pierced through this audience and shook us all to our core," he told Millevoi. "There's that sense of soul and urgency and passion. Your type of performing is a lost art form that I feel like needs to be thrust back into the spotlight. I am a fan, I am blown away by what you do, and I’ve got to coach you."
Legend was equally moved: "I'm in awe right now, and I literally have one spot left on my team and I'm like, you were sent from heaven, Syd, to fill that final spot," he said. "And you can win this competition."
Viewers will find out tonight which coach Millevoi selects from among Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine when the episode airs at 9 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
Millevoi is no stranger to commanding a stage. At the 2024 NJCU Commencement ceremony at Red Bull Arena, she delivered a national anthem performance that went viral on TikTok — a powerful moment that captured the attention of audiences far beyond the NJCU community. Her appearance on one of television's most-watched music competitions is the latest milestone in a rapid rise for the talented vocalist, who first gained national attention as a contestant on Season 22 of ABC's “American Idol” in February 2024.
"Sydney delivered a powerful performance during the Blind Auditions, and it's wonderful to see one of our Music, Dance, and Theatre students representing NJCU on a national stage," said Amparo Fabra, Ph.D., Interim Associate Dean for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
Fans eager to see Millevoi perform live will not have to wait long. She is currently starring as Bella in NJCU's MDT’s spring musical production of “Jagged Little Pill” running March 20–29 at the NJCU Center for the Arts. Directed and coordinated by Professor Marc Dalio, the production features an exceptional cast of NJCU students: Sydney Millevoi as Bella, Tatyana Serrato as Mary Jane, Byron Flores, Jr. as Steve, Zemirah Redmond as Frankie, and Mathew Segovia as Nick.
