NJCU STEAM Academy Curriculum: Empowering the Leaders of the Future

Our program is dedicated to developing robust CTE (Career and Technical Education) competencies and youth leadership in our students, ensuring they graduate as well-rounded, future-ready individuals.

As the program has evolved, we have intentionally interwoven industry-aligned, experiential learning into the very fabric of our courses and student experience. Students regularly engage with the professional world and bridge the gap between theory and practice through:

  • Industry Expert Lectures: Hearing directly from professionals navigating today's workforce.
  • Experiential Classroom Visits: Immersive, hands-on sessions that bring industry environments to life.
  • Real-World Projects: Meaningful assignments that directly connect Human-Centered Design (HCD) with practical leadership skills.

A Mission-Driven Curriculum

Underpinning every course we offer is the profound question posed by NATO’s Youth Summit:

“What does a leader of the future look like? What values, skills, and qualities will be essential to navigate an evolving global landscape, and what concrete actions should they take to build a safer world?”

Our students do not just passively consider this prompt; they actively seek to answer it. By connecting course content to real-life case studies, hands-on experiments, and collaborative problem-solving, students cultivate the exact values and skills needed to navigate and shape our evolving global landscape.

NEW! Career & Technical Training Certification Courses

Educational Technology

NJCU is excited to offer exciting Career and Technical Training courses online for the students at the NJCU STEAM Academy this year!

These 5 or 6-week fundamental courses are designed for those seeking advanced learning opportunities that will challenge and enrich their academic experience beyond the NJCU STEAM Academy and their traditional high school catalogue.

These courses lead to a micro-credential certification of completion from NJCU/Kean Jersey City and are an additional cost per each course the student enrolls in. Students from the NJCU STEAM Academy will complete these courses as part of the optional Enrichment Hour.

View the courses and register here!

Week 1 (July 1-July 3): Students who are enrolled in the training courses for certification will be meeting their Training Coach and Supervisor on June 29, 2026 in the Main Lobby of the Science Building at 12:00 PM.

All students will go over how to access Ed2Go, the platform for our courses, and get logged in. Students will begin by taking an introduction to the Ed2Go and start their courses.

Dismissal will be at 3:00 PM
