Spring 2019 Academic Workshops

Praxis Core Mathematics

This workshop is geared toward College of Education students in preparation for the Mathematics section of the Praxis Core exam. Sessions will focus on: Number & Quantity, Algebra & Functions, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability.

Workshops run bi-weekly on Mondays, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in The Hub, Room 121.

Praxis Core Writing/Reading

This workshop is geared toward College of Education students in preparation for the Writing and Reading sections of the Praxis Core exam. Sessions will focus on: Writing Argumentative and Source-Based Essays, Writing Core: Multiple Choice Items, and Reading Comprehension. Students will improve their time management skills, effective essay writing techniques, reading comprehension, and grammar & usage.

Workshops run bi-weekly on Wednesdays, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in The Hub, Room 121.

APA: 6th Edition

This workshop covers the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition, focusing on formatting (paragraph structure, in-text citations, and references) and the importance of understanding APA principles.

* Students may bring in previously written essays and ask questions regarding specific issues.

Workshops run bi-weekly on Thursdays, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in The Hub, Room 121.

Let's Talk

This workshop focuses on familiarizing English Language Learners (ELL) with verbal and written communications common in American English and helping them understand slang, idioms, tone, and speed by analyzing dialogue in videos and text on social media.

Workshops run bi-weekly on Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in The Hub, Room 107A.

Let's Write

This workshop focuses on familiarizing English Language Learners (ELL) with English in academic writing. Students will learn about grammar, sentence structure, word choice, and how to differentiate between formal and informal writing.

Students seeking one-on-one tutoring for Praxis Core Reading/Writing and Mathematics; APA: 6th Edition; Let's Write; and Let's Talk may book tutoring sessions in addition to attending workshops.
