Graduate Admissions Process

Important Information

Below you will find important information about the graduate admissions process at NJCU. Please follow these steps to prepare your application for submission.

Review Program Requirements & Deadlines

While there are general application requirements for all programs, many of the required supplemental materials vary based on program. Please be sure to review your programs requirements to ensure you submit all necessary materials to complete your application.

International students may have additional materials to submit to compete the application process. Please see the International Programs page for more information.

Prepare Your Application Materials

Get ahead of the process. Once you’ve identified the requirements for your program, start preparing your materials. Contact your previous colleges and request to have all your official transcripts sent to us. If required, have your official test scores sent to us by the appropriate testing agencies. Contact your recommenders and prepare your personal statement.

Note: Official documents are considered those we receive directly from the source (i.e. your previous institution(s), testing company, or recommenders). Transcripts, test scores, or letters of recommendation that are hand-delivered or emailed to us by applicants are considered unofficial copies.

All supplemental materials should be mailed directly to the Office of University Admissions:

New Jersey City University
Office of University Admissions
2039 Kennedy Boulevard
Hepburn 206
Jersey City, NJ 07305-1597

TEST WAIVER POLICY

Many graduate programs at NJCU require master's degree-seeking students to submit one of the following standardized test scores as part of the admissions process: Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Miller Analogies Test (MAT), and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).  We encourage you to take and submit scores to enhance your application for admission. However, some programs will consider students for test waivers if the following undergraduate GPA requirements are met:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher unless otherwise noted
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher for Business M.S/M.B.A.programs, Special Education M.A. with LDTC Endorsement Eligibility, Counseling, and Nursing.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher for National Security Studies.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT TEST WAIVERS:

  • Applications for admission to a master's degree program and test waivers are subject to approval by the applicable academic department.
  • The test waiver does NOT apply to any doctoral or professional diploma in school psychology programs.
  • The test waiver does NOT apply to students who wish to be considered for NJCU Admissions Scholarships. All students who wish to be considered for university scholarships must submit standardized test scores.
  • If you do not meet the test waiver requirements, we encourage you to submit your test scores or a letter of appeal for further consideration.
