Supported Educational Technologies at NJCU

The list of Educational Technologies, below, are available to NJCU instructors and/or students. If you are in need of assistance with any of the following tools or resources, please refer to NJCU’s Knowledge Base or email helpdesk@njcu.edu for assistance.

Blackboard (Learning Management System)

Blackboard, the official learning management system (LMS) of New Jersey City University, is used for course activities and communication in online, hybrid, hyflex or web-enhanced courses.


Blackboard Ally (Accessibility/ADA Compliance)

Ally helps faculty improve the accessibility of course documents. With Ally, students view course documents in a variety of formats that support different learning needs. Ally is integrated into the Blackboard and automatically provides alternative formats of certain course documents. Ally offers step-by-step guidance to faculty when a course document or content needs improvement.


Panopto

Panopto is the official video capture, editing, and hosting system of New Jersey City University. While similar to repositories like YouTube, Panopto is geared for education and integrates with Blackboard.


Quality Matters (QM) Self-Review Tool

The QM Self-Review tool, available to instructors at New Jersey City University with a free QM account, allows instructors to confidentially evaluate how a course aligns with the QM Rubric, which consists of research-based best practices for designing high-quality, engaging online courses. For instructor who wish to access the QM Self Review for the first time, please request access by emailing helpdesk@njcu.edu.


Respondus 4.1 (Test Generator)

Respondus 4.0 enables instructors to create and manage exams to be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard for online delivery.

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a collaborative multi-media discussion board. Much like a Blackboard discussion board, a thread is started by a student or instructor and other enrolled users can respond. Responses can be in the form of a live video that is captured at submission, live audio that is captured at submission, text, or an uploaded media file.


Zoom

Zoom is the dedicated video-conference system supported by New Jersey City University. Zoom integrates with Blackboard and allows for synchronous audio/video conferences. Recordings can be automatically archived on to NJCU’s video repository, Panopto.

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser, creates a testing environment within Blackboard that is locked down so students are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. They are locked into the one and only item or items you have allowed them to have access to.


Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor adds another layer of secured when used in tandem with Respondus LockDown Browser to allow that instructor or their designee to asynchronously visually monitor the testing environment the student was in during the duration of the exam.


SafeAssign (Plagiarism Detection)

SafeAssign helps students learn to cite work properly and aids faculty in detecting possible incidents of plagiarism on written assignments. This tool is integrated in each Blackboard course.
