What is OSP?

The Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) is New Jersey City University’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program. Over the years, OSP/EOF has helped thousands of qualified students meet their academic and financial commitments and achieve their hopes and dreams for a better future. The program is rich in support services that get you the help you need to succeed.

Why Do I Have to Participate in the Summer Academy?

The EOF philosophy is strongly rooted in the idea that a student’s potential cannot be simply determined by grades and test scores. Therefore, the OSP/EOF Summer Academy will give you an opportunity to strengthen academic skills in preparation for your first semester as a college student. You will also have the opportunity to learn about campus resources, build leadership skills, and make lasting connections with staff and peers. Doing this before all other freshmen arrive to start college will help boost your confidence.

Classes are in session for five weeks from July 6, 2020 through August 6, 2020, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Students are not permitted to be absent during this time. Additional educational programs will be held in the evenings for residential students who stay in campus residence halls.

While components of the program vary each summer, you can expect to be placed in a group focused on your particular goals. Throughout the OSP Summer Academy you will receive training in essential mathematics, reading, and writing skills. You will also attend Leadership Seminars that will help you develop personal initiative, a sense of responsibility, and effective study skills.

All tuition and fees, books, activities, meals, and summer residential expenses are paid for by OSP/EOF.

Why Do I Have To Submit So Many Documents?

The documents we ask for help us determine if you meet the State of New Jersey’s financial eligibility guidelines. We know it seems like a lot of work to gather all of these documents, but trust that it will be worth it. The EOF grant you will receive will help pay for your education!

What Will I Get Out of the Experience of Being an OSP/EOF Student?

You get to be a part of a nationally recognized program that has a 50 year history of helping students achieve their dreams! If that’s not enough, here’s a list of benefits you will receive by being an OSP/EOF student at NJCU:

  • A strong support system of a dedicated staff who will guide you through college;
  • Individualized tutoring, advising, and counseling;
  • Leadership training and student development;
  • An EOF grant for a maximum of 12 semesters versus the 8 semesters offered by the NJ TAG grant, if eligible;
  • Additional funds to cover summer and winter classes (based on the availability of funds); and

What if I Cannot Attend the OSP Summer Academy?

Since your admission into the University for the fall is contingent upon you successfully completing the OSP Summer Academy, you may risk forfeiting your acceptance.

What if I am Not Financially Eligible for OSP/EOF?

If you do not meet the financial eligibility guidelines for OSP/EOF, your application will be forwarded to the University’s ASCEND program which offers a summer bridge program for conditionally accepted students.
