Spring 2023 Workshops
Workshops are available online and in-person at The Hub, Guarini Library, Room 121. Students can review the schedule and self-register via the Tutoring and Academic Support course on Blackboard.
The following workshops will be available throughout the spring semester:
Academic Integrity: Plagiarism
Topics include: Defining Plagiarism; Understanding NJCU’s Academic Integrity Policy, including Definitions of Violations of Academic Integrity: Cheating, Plagiarism, Fabrication, and Other Examples of Academic Misconduct; Understanding Penalties of Violations for Academic Integrity, including Level I, Level II, and Level II; Avoiding Plagiarism; and Following MLA and APA Citation Structures.
Academic Reading and Writing for English Language Learners
This discussion-based workshop will assist English language learners (ELL) with strategies for academic reading, writing, and speaking. Topics will include grammar structures (form, meaning, and use) and use of language in academic settings.

Academic Writing: APA 7th Edition: Organizational Tips and Strategies
Topics include: Critical Reading Techniques; Pre-writing Techniques; Paper Elements, including Title Page, Section Headings, and References; In-Text Citations; and Writing for Students Returning to Academia.
Academic Writing: Components of an Essay
Topics include: Identifying Topic and Purpose; Outline and Logical Progression; Thesis Construction; Understanding Your Audience; Synthesizing Sources; and References
Academic Writing: Writing for the Public Audience
Topics include: Selecting a Topic and Purpose; Ethics and Audience Awareness; Identifying Audience: Writing for Non-academic and Academic Audiences; The Effects of Audience on Style, including accessibility, recognizing jargon, and using concise language; Active Voice; Rhetorical Strategies; and References, Assertions, and Commentary.
Grammar
This workshop series will help students with sentence structure, subject & verb agreement, prepositions & phrasal verbs, idioms, articles, academic writing, and common grammar mistakes.
Time Management and Study Skills
This workshop will help students develop time management strategies including prioritization, organization, reflection, accountability, and flexibility; additional topics will include study skills such as test preparation, note-taking, and reading comprehension.
Advanced Writing: APA - Synthesizing Literature and Writing the Literature Review
Topics include: Student as Researcher; Conceptualizing the Literature Review; Collecting and Cataloging Sources; Pre-writing and Synthesizing the Literature; and Selection of Extant Literature and Seminal Works.
