About Degrees in Music, Dance, and Theatre

Completion of an MDT Major prepares one for a career in the music industry. Learn more about our specializations below. Continued study could include a master's degree, or pursuing teaching certification through New Jersey Alternate Route.

An audition is required to be admitted into the program for all areas of study, please contact us for more information. Additionally applicants must be accepted to NJCU. MDT may also require placement exams for transfer credits.
 

MDT: Undergraduate Programs

B.A. MUSIC

  • Music, B.A.
    This major prepares one for a career as a private teacher, accompanist, solo and ensemble performer, and various jobs in the music industry.
  • Music Business, B.A.
    Students in the Music Business Program prepare for careers in the industry in such fields as artist management, music publishing, songwriting, concert promotion, publicity and marketing, talent booking and tour management.
  • Musical Theatre, B.A.
    Students in the Musical Theatre major prepare for a career in such areas as music theatre performer, music theatre director, and music theatre voice teacher.  
  • Multi Style Strings, B.A.
    This major led by Grammy Award winning, and Recording Academy voting member, Martha Mooke embraces all styles of music, technology and improvisation with a mission to support creative exploration, and provide practical tools for the 21st century string player.

B.M. MUSIC

  • Performance - Classical - Instrumental B.M.
    This major prepares students to work as a solo or ensemble performer, private teacher, or conductor. The Instrumental Performance BM offers concentrations in Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Piano, and Guitar.
  • Performance-Classical-Voice, B.M.
    This major prepares students to work as a solo or ensemble performer, private teacher, or conductor.
  • Performance-Jazz Studies, B.M.
    This major prepares students to work as a solo or ensemble performer, private teacher, or conductor with a focus on performance, jazz education, arranging and composition.

MINOR

  • Music
    The music minor allows students to explore their passion for music while pursuing other academic interests. This program offers a flexible and comprehensive curriculum tht covers areas such as music theory, history, and performance skills across a variety of genres.
