Successful teaching is not just what happens within the classroom. It involves lesson planning, course development, program development, and beyond. To provide outstanding educational experiences for our students, the professorate must make constant adjustments to meet changing requirements in the science professions. We can increase recruitment and retention of our students in the STEM disciplines and improve the expertise of our graduates only if we systemically re-design the science major courses across all STEM disciplines. This revision must integrate pedagogy, research and technology, and create a vibrant scientific community among faculty and students.
