Heber Diaz

I’m a third-generation artist, my grandfather used to make piñatas, and my dad is a typographer. They
didn’t have the opportunity to became professional, so I decided to became a graphic designer and the
first artist on my family to have a degree.

I was born in Guatemala, but in 2015 I came to the United States looking for a better life. Spanish is my
first language, and I know how difficult could became been an immigrant. So, I decided to create a
magazine showing my country. It is planned for immigrants that came here maybe 15 years ago or more,
for their children, because they were born here so they don’t know too much about Guatemala, and at
the same time, it could work for people from other countries, they could get interested on Guatemala
and visit it.
I’m doing 5 sections, right now I have finished 3 of them. I am trying to include a little bit of everything,
that’s why I have articles from people who went through immigration, places that you can visit if you go
there, sports, and food.
All the magazine is in English and Spanish because I speak both languages and I know so many
immigrants doesn’t speak perfect English, you can notice that all the Spanish copy has a colored
background.
This is the Guatemala edition, but maybe in the future I can create more editions but from different
countries. Just a reminder, it is still work in progress.
